Station ALOHA has been the location of ~monthly shipboard observations of water column physics, biogeochemistry, and ecosystems for over 18 years. Nearby moorings have also been deployed (e.g. HALE-ALOHA). The NSF-funded cabled observatory deployed at that site is called the ALOHA observatory. MARS is the Monterey Advanced Research System (see below). The idea is to deploy a mooring in Monterey Bay connected to the MARS observatory, and in the future another one at the ALOHA site connected to the ALOHA observatory.
